A favourite of the Overnighters has been the music of Barry Rose.

A new double CD of his beautiful piano work - with 50 all-time favourites - has been released by Resonance.

More than 2 hours and 25 minutes total playing time - ideal for dinner parties and special occasions.

About the CD

The Overnighters have delighted in the piano work of Barry Rose, who has just released a double CD of 50 family favourites.
Barry’s keyboard work first came to prominence on the Overnighters radio program when Keith McGowan played tracks from an early release of the recordings, produced as a fund raiser for Barry’s local Lions Club of Scone in NSW.
When more than 1000 copies were sold for charity, and $15,000 donated, Melbourne music producer Marcus Herman stepped in to assist in re-packaging the piano CD - which is in the mould of Richard Clayderman.
More than 200 copies were sold by mail to Overnighters listeners, and last week’s release through Discurio saw a similar rush of sales.

Barry Rose is an active public figure in country NSW, and well known in that Hunter Valley region ... but Barry Rose the pianist and keyboard player, who had not played for 30 years, was almost forgotten.
Barry, a former Mayor of Scone, and his wife Jan, were entertaining guests for lunch, with an audio cassette playing background music.
One of the guests, local accountant Bob Rose (unrelated!) remarked “Nice music, who ‘s playing?”
“That’s me,” replied Barry.
After another wine or two, Bob suggested Barry should release it on CD. Though doubtful, Barry nevertheless let Bob borrow the tapes.
Bob suggested his idea to the progressive Lions Club of Scone as a means of assisting local charities, such as Strathearn Village Care Centre.
Barry generously donated his talent and recording rights, and Bob efficiently arranged production of the limited edition CD titled Wine and Roses.

Many of the orders that came from Melbourne were accompanied by letters and cards of appreciation for the pleasure the music had given.
Aware that Barry Rose’s smooth piano style and choice of material had exceptional listener appeal, the Resonance label arranged produced of this double two-in-one album.
Disc One includes all the songs from the original album plus a beautiful version of Don’t Cry For Me Argentina. Disc Two includes 25 additional favourites.

Barry Rose began playing piano at the age of 7. Trained as a classical pianist until at age 17, he left school to work on the family property, dairy farming, and later sheep and beef cattle farming, with standard-bred horses as a sideline.
Barry played in dance and jazz groups around the Hunter Valley region of NSW until the early 70s, and was a highly sought-after accompanist for visting performers.
Barry became a successful full-time horse breeder, and a professional trainer/driver for 30 years.
He was Chairman for the NSW Harness Racing Commission of Inquiry in 1981, and appointed to the Harness Racing Authority in 1983, serving five years as Chairman.
He also served as Senior Vice-President of the Australian Harness Racing Council.
He served seven years as Board Member of the New South Wales TAB.

In 1987, Barry became interested in local government, standing as an independent fro local shire election, serving 16 years; 13 as Mayor of the Shire of Scone.
He was recently elected as Mayor of Upper Hunter Shire, which combines several local regions including Scone.
The CD came from music recorded at the Rose family property, Milford Hills Stud. The property does not have mains power, so when Barry plays his beautiful Yamaha Clavinova CLP-611 digital piano, an auxiliary generator is operated.
