Welcome to the Overnighters website
MELBOURNE has its own culture that lives in the ‘wee small hours’ between Midnight and Dawn.
Our Observer Overnighters section (every week in the Melbourne Observer newspaper) and this website includes some of the Overnighters and their interests, many of which are reflected in the top-rating 3AW ‘Overnighters’ radio program, 12 Midnight-5.30am, hosted by Keith McGowan.
The Observer Overnighters newspaper page and website are independently operated by the Melbourne Observer newspaper, and are not products of Radio 3AW or its parent company Fairfax Radio.

Welcome Oliver Dunkley Higgins
Photos of baby: Oliver Higgins
Brad Higgins, UK correspondent for the Overnighters, with wife Lorna, has announced the arrival on Tuesday, December 15, of Oliver Dunkley Higgins, a brother for James. Brad says: "Oliver weighed in at 7lbs 5ozs (3.31kg) and is in rude health; crying, eating, gurgling and sleeping. Lorna is very well considering the trauma of surgery and tonight was moved to a private room (very pleased!). James loves his little brother and was very keen to have a cuddle." 'Melbourne Observer - A Newspaper Success Story'
"We used to sell two or three copies of the Melbourne Observer, a weekly tabloid newspaper. Now, we're selling between 60 and 100 copies a week. This jump in sales has occurred in the last two months. It has happened as a result of the product being re-worked to better connect with a specific demographic. It helps that the local talkback station discusses the newspaper regularly on the overnight shift. Melbourne Observer customers are not your usual newspaper customers so we’re seeing some welcome additional traffic."
