Mansfield's Melbourne TV Program

Mansfield's Melbourne was a nightly television program, which started on Monday, February 24, 1997. It continued for more than 500 episodes.

The first half-hour shows went to air at 6pm, Monday-Friday, on Optus Local Vision (Channel 50). They were recorded at the Optus studios at Buckhurst St, South Melbourne.

Later in the year, with the closure of Optus Local Vision, the show moved to community TV station, Channel 31.

At the time, Channel 31 said that the show's audience reached more than 200,000 people for the Saturday program, aired at 5.45pm, just prior to the harness racing broadcasts. The station claimed the weeknight audience was in excess of 100,000 people.

Mansfield's Melbourne also spawned some other shows: Mansfield's Memories, Life In Focus (hosted by Dr John Jory), and Night Owl Theatre.

Mansfield's Melbourne also branched out with weekly episodes in Sydney and Brisbane, later known as The Sydney Report and The Brisbane Report. Another in the stable of programs was The Adelaide Report. All were broadcast on the local Channel 31 community TV stations.

All these shows were produced by Ash Long Media at studios located at RMIT Melbourne, Thomastown, then the Eltham premises of Local Media Pty Ltd.
