About Elise Gow Photography

A LIFELONG passion for photography was transformed into what has become a dynamic and award-winning international career path for me when I was just a 14-year-old student.

Learning the practical essentials from tutor Kerry Short at Wanganui Park Secondary College in Shepparton, Australia, my first work experience in professional photography was on the local daily title, the Shepparton News.
Gaining the top grade in my photography qualification, I was offered and accepted a cadetship at the paper where I trained under a recognised industry talent, Ray Sizer who became an inspirational mentor and friend.

Quickly developing the knowledge and confidence to teach photography to other young people, I was to travel to New York where I tutored students in basic practical skills.
This broadened my horizons both professionally and personally, and a newly discovered interest in travel would later become a feature of my career as I would prove the universal appeal of quality photography with more overseas work.

On my return from the US, my career at The Shepparton News soon progressed in line with my fast-growing management skills and I was given the role of Deputy Chief Photographer while still just 21-years-old, going on to win three Photograph of the Year awards.
Again, at 24-years-old, I wanted to put my abilites to the test in a new and unfamiliar environment and realised a long-held ambition to work in the UK.

I achieved this ambition and worked as Deputy Chief Photographer on the regional evening title of the Evening Echo, for Newsquest Ltd, and achieved the award of Newsquest Essex Photographer of the Year 2001.
After two years in England and a portfolio ranging from Prime Minister Tony Blair and Prince Charles to shoots for London hairdressers, I needed a fresh new challenge and returned to my homeland to launch Elise Gow Photography.
